What is the cause for sleepless nights? Are they the bad memories full of nightmare starters? Or is there fear of what might happen if you are not paying attention? Is there pain so agonizing that that is all you can think about, whether physical or mentally?
There are many reasons for sleep to evade us in the night, but we all know that there are also nights when the mind is burning the candle at both ends, and you are just wide awake.
So, is thinking always the best thing to do as you are about to drift off to sleep? Or is it a better thing to empty the train station full of ideas, memories, and thought, and form a drifting prone shape to view in the place of the other thoughts?
There is a lot that happens in the mind, even when we are shut down to asleep. We are an organic machine with constant functions being performed and calculations being run.
Thinking about that is truly an interesting fact! Though its not necessarily great to think about at nigh, because it will just draw you further in to pondering. Its like when you have car sickness and people say that if you focus on a still object (often like the horizon) it will go away. However for me after finding a still object I begin to think on how the earth is in constant rotation, constant movement….. and that just often times makes it worse.
I find it easier to have clear thoughts at night, probably due to the fact that its quieter that the day time hustle. Which is good if, you have no intention of sleeping, which I must admit that I have often fallen to. It seemed like a better idea to write some of these thoughts down or get other work done, verse tossing and turning with no results.
Though I do try many thing to help me to fall asleep, before succumbing to the fact that sleep once again alludes me. I will try reading. Such as the Bible or some other book I have already read, so I would not get drawn into it to find out what happens.
I even try listening to audio books! The best ones are the ones I have already listen too, for the same reason so as not to get drawn in. This seems to work a little bit more than reading a physical book because I can rest my eyes and get all comfortable. Though I do keep the volume just a little bit below normal hearing range so I can relax into the quiet enough to hear the soothing voice of the reader reading the book. I have found that this helps a lot! However after awhile it does seem to fade so I like to switch it up and do different techniques.
I will also listen ti music! I`ll have a playlist with just instrumental music, because I find that does better than song with lyric that get my to humming along. Symphonies and soundtracks are a good portion of what I have, once again at a low volume to help me sink into the silence.
However sometime I even just lay there and dive deep into a story of my making. Adding very detailed scenes and colorful character with difference flaws and behaviors to design a vast story to occupy my time. Even doing that sometimes helps me drift off to sleep without even realizing.
So at last I have just concluded that the mind is indeed a mysterious and grand part of our human being. It hold many wonders that we may never figure out! But I guess that`s okay, because if we know everything that there is to know then what would be the purpose after that point?
There will always be questions with answers out of our reach, but in due time all will be revealed at the hour true necessity.
